They’ve always found each other.
In every single life, Juyeon finds Kevin, even when he isn’t trying to.
And every single time, he never gets enough time with him to say what he wants.
Nine lives, and he still hasn’t told Kevin he loves him.
It’s not entirely Juyeon’s fault. He wakes up with new clothes and a new identity. Always Lee Juyeon, but Lee Juyeon with a family, or without. Lee Juyeon with an ever-changing group of friends, or without. Lee Juyeon who has a lover that isn’t Moon Hyungseo, or Kevin Moon with a lover that isn’t him.
It’s bittersweet, watching someone you’ve loved for centuries, be happy with someone else. But even that isn’t the main reason as to why Juyeon has never told Kevin what he’s always wanted to say.
The universe never gives him enough time. By the time he meets Kevin, intentionally or not, they’re never together for long, because Kevin never remembers who he is.
It’s first time meetings repeated over and over and Juyeon is the only one who remembers Kevin. Remembers his prince, his adviser, his doctor, his colleague, his lover. By the time Kevin makes a friend of Juyeon, and when Juyeon inevitably falls all over again, they’re separated.
Kevin had only kissed him once within the centuries they’ve known each other. A broken, desperate thing when the lights went out at their office. Something Kevin had done out of impulse, despite the severe consequences.
“Kevin,” Juyeon whispered against trembling lips, caging Kevin in his arms against the table.
“I don’t know if I can be without you, Juyeon.“
I love him, Juyeon thinks to himself, wanting to cry when Kevin presses their foreheads together, his hands fisted in Juyeon’s shirt.
And like that, Kevin leaves him with regrets and the reality that he won’t be able to do this again.
So when Juyeon wakes up this time, he knows he has to find Kevin immediately. No matter what it takes. It makes life a whole lot easier when he walks out of his room in a sleep-addled state, to find him standing in the kitchen.
“You’re up early.” HIs voice is still the same, after all this time. Round cheeks, bright eyes, with glasses this time. He’s smiling at him, like they’ve known each other for a while. Like he recognises him.
Juyeon doesn’t wait. He runs towards him and engulfs him in a hug, pressing Kevin to his chest tightly as if he’ll disappear any second. Kevin staggers back, dropping his coffee mug onto the table.
“Hey… you okay?” Kevin’s voice reduces to a whisper, his hands wrapping around Juyeon’s waist gently.
“I—“
There’s so much he has to say. Kevin pulls him back, concern written all over his face.
“What’s wrong?”
“I missed you, that’s all.”
“We saw each other just a few hours ago,” Kevin says, amused but still touched by the way he smiles fondly at Juyeon. Oh, missing him is not even the half of it.
Juyeon isn’t embarrassed, he’s lived far too long for that.
“Did you sleep well? You look tired,” Kevin comments when Juyeon remains silent, only concerned with his eye bags instead of the way he’s staring intently at him.
Juyeon doesn’t know what kind of relationship they have, but he knows he loves Kevin in this life too.
“I love you.”
Kevin freezes. Juyeon keeps going.
“I should have told you a long time ago.”
His eyes flicker with understanding and Juyeon thinks they might have forever after all.
